Merrell Holbrook Retires from Porter Freight Funding After a 45-Year Career in Finance and Business

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., September 23, 2026 - Porter Freight Funding, a freight factoring and fuel card company headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, today announced the retirement of Vice President Merrell Holbrook, effective October 1, 2026.

Holbrook joined Assist Financial Services (AFS) nearly 18 years ago and played a central role in building the team that later transitioned to Porter Freight Funding, a part of Porter Capital Corporation. Over the course of a 45-year professional career, not including his years of military service, Holbrook held roles in public accounting, corporate America, and small business in markets ranging from Casper, Wyoming, to Chicago, Illinois, and South Dakota.

"Merrell has been a steady leader and a trusted mentor to so many people on our team. His experience and his care for the people around him helped make our transition to Porter a success, and his impact will be felt here for years to come. We are grateful for everything he has contributed and wish him the very best in retirement," said John Land, President of Porter Freight Funding.

Reflecting on his career, Holbrook said, "I have worn a number of hats over the years, and while all of those experiences were valuable, none have been nearly as fulfilling as my time with AFS and Porter and the fine people I know here."

Holbrook will remain available through the end of the year to support the completion of several AFS corporate matters.
