Interport Trade Capital Places Supply Chain Finance Facility Scaling to $10 Million for Asia-Focused Energy and Commodities Trader
NEW YORK – August 7th, 2026 – Interport Trade Capital, acting as advisor, is pleased to announce the successful placement of a supply chain finance facility for a Singapore-headquartered energy and commodities trading group whose core operating platform is in North Asia. The facility begins at $1 million on first drawdown, with the mutual agreement of all parties to scale toward $10 million or more over the coming quarters as the transaction record builds.
The client imports and distributes refined petroleum products and bio-feedstocks into a frontier Asian market that imports 100% of its refined fuels. The group is founder-led by a commodities executive with more than twenty years in the sector, including senior roles at a leading global trading house and an international bank.
The business is structurally working-capital intensive. Suppliers are paid upfront or on very short terms, while downstream sales to retailers, mining contractors, and industrial end-users are made on deferred payment or product-swap terms. That timing gap, combined with the jurisdictional profile of the underlying flows, created demand for a financing partner willing to take unsecured credit exposure on a borrower whose operating assets sit in a frontier market.
Interport advised the client on the appropriate structure and placed the facility with a North America-based specialty trade finance group. The facility operates on a 'flash title' model: the financier purchases product from approved suppliers and immediately resells it back-to-back to the client on deferred payment terms of up to 90 days, with title passing simultaneously on both legs and no logistics or physical handling risk taken by the financier. The client takes possession of the cargo and manages the onward movement as principal.
"What makes a flow like this hard to bank is geography rather than credit quality," said John Stillwaggon, Founder & Managing Director of Interport Trade Capital. "The company is well established and incorporated in a stable jurisdiction, but its assets, receivables and cash conversion cycle all sit in a frontier market, and most institutions will not take that exposure. The discipline is in matching the tenor of the disbursements to the actual trade cycle rather than extending a general-purpose facility which can drift from a credit perspective."
Interport Trade Capital works with borrowers and capital providers across most global geographies to structure and place transactions in the global trade finance market, and welcomes collaboration with advisors and other intermediaries.
